Cultural events

Bratislava is full of great cultural events and celebrations that can really enhance your stay while here.  
One of  the major event that locals and tourists love is the  Organ Music Days in August which take place at the castle. Even if this is not your music of choice it is a great way to see the tradition of this culture.

Cultural Summer including Film Festival at Main Square starts in July and runs through September. Meet up to catch a flick, drink some wine and enjoy interlude musical performances. Even if you don't understand the movie chances are you'll meet some great people sitting around you.

September kicks off  the Bratislava Music Festivities series which is a superb addition to the city's attractions. This musical celebration highlights the best of the best from Beethoven to classic and new jazz. Different philharmonic groups travel from all over even the U.S. to perform at these series.

Local curiosities

A great aspect about autumn time is the celebration of the wine season. Many wineries open for tours and toast to the new wines.

December is a great time to visit as you can experience the Christmas markets a tradition of the region.

On New Year's there is a party all around the old town with many stages with different kind of music and shows. All the bars and pubs around are crowded with tourists all around the world. The centre of the celebrations, where the main New Year's eve celebrations is played out, is the Main Square.

This square is taken up primarily with a live concert over several hours. It begins at 7.00 pm and last until the early hours of the following morning. Hviezdoslav´s Square is, due to its size and position, the site for a great open air discotheque, attracting revellers from midnight through to 2.00 am. From 6.00 pm a live concert of the best local representatives of world & ethno music styles. The is an illuminated countdown of the last seconds of the old year, and the fabulous fireworks display directly from the Danube River.
